Executive Summary
- On being presented with an explanation why Wells is the operational base for the wind farm, 70% of respondents were satisfied with this explanation, 18% neither satisfied or dissatisfied, and just 10% expressing dissatisfaction with the rationale.
- Reactions to the Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm are very positive, with 71% considering it a good idea with benefits for the community, 22% thinking it a good thing but with concerns about possible negative effects for the local area, and just 7% considering it a bad idea with negative effects for the local area.
- Spontaneously, the majority of respondents suggested that the wind farm would produce more employment opportunities and boost the local economy. On prompting, over three quarters also consider the wind farm will have positive effects for community projects and local business, placing Wells at the forefront of a new technology and clean energy source.
- Half of all respondents were concerned the development would result in increased traffic, 42% that it would put more pressure on house price and availability, with less than a third suggesting it would spoil the natural environment or the look and feel of the town. Interestingly, these concerns were substantially lower among residents, at 20% and 22% respectively.
- Overall, 79% or all respondents said they did not have any concerns about the Sheringham Shoal Wind Farm development. Those with concerns were focussed on effectiveness of wind energy and disruption of wildlife.
